Hey everyone!  I hope you are all recovering from the long weekend.  I’ve had a lot of catch up so far this week between work and the current fitness program I’m on, but cheers to the week already being half way over!

For those of you who have been actively following me for at least a few months, you will know that I have added in micro needling to my facial and skin care regiment.  You can read more about my skincare routine on from an earlier blog post that I wrote HERE.

I started going to Heather Cash of Aggieland Aesthetics almost a year and a half ago to get a monthly corrective facial.  She is beyond passionate and talented at her profession.  She is results driven, and that is one of the main reasons I love going to her! At that time I was 29 and with approaching turning 30, I wanted to do a better job of taking care of the skin that I have.  Starting last fall, November to be exact, I started micro needling.  I have now done micro-needling 5 times from November to May.  I have seen tremendous improvement in pore size, redness, fine lines, a more even tone and texture, and even minimal added volume.  I don’t have acne scarring and also don’t have really any brown or sun spots, but it helps with these issues as well.  The reason I like it is because there are no synthetics injected in, rather just a wound that your body then naturally heals on its own.  I want my anti-aging process to look very natural, so this is another reason why I have tied to micro-needling over all the other options on the market.

The first time I did micro-needling took me the longest to heal – 4 days.  Since then I usually heal in 1-3 days.  She originally had me set to do this 3-4 times a year while also still doing my monthly corrective facial, but honestly I am having such good results from micro needling that we have cut out my corrective facial and now I am going to be micro needling every 4-6 weeks.  I love seeing results, so I’m all about doing what is giving me the best results more often!  I have posted on my instagram and insta stories while I am having the procedure done, as well as while I’m recovering and even the results after.  It is one of the topics I receive the most questions and engagement from, so I approached Heather and asked if I could interview her to feature for y’all on my blog.  She was also so kind to offer a GIVEAWAY to 3 of my readers.  You’ll find that the very bottom.  See my progress pictures after a session and read our interview below:

This is what you’ll look like right after the procedure.  I usually don’t wash my face for a couple of hours.  I love going through a drive thru and scaring the worker on duty haha.  Then I obviously explain why I look so frightening.

Here is an example of day 2.  You’ll see redness.  I usually have redness still on day 3, but it’s much more minimal and can be easily covered up with powder.

And then here is the week after getting micro-needled.  I am always super glow-y the week after and my pores are so tight.

R: What is microneedling?

H: Micro-needling, or CIT (Collagen Induction Therapy) is a skin rejuvenation procedure in which tiny sterile needles create punctures in the skin with the goal of improving overall tone and texture. Basically, fibroblasts gather at the site of an injury and start to produce collagen. So with this controlled wound (micro-needling) we’re actually tricking your body into producing more collagen!

R: What is the benefit of microneedling?

H: Microneedling is beneficial in more ways than one. This is a GREAT treatment for acne scarring as it helps to break up the scarring and smooth out the skins texture. It also helps with fine lines and wrinkles, redness, hyper-pigmentation, tone and texture, increased collagen production and pore size.

R: Why microneedling over another treatment that could fix the same issue I have?

H: Efficicacy. I’ve worked in skincare a while (6 years), I work with chemicals, lasers, radiofrequency, etc… Micro-needling is one of my all-time favorite treatments because it delivers results. And because we’re not using a ton of product or foreign substances during the healing process, there’s very little chance of having an adverse effect. It literally makes your own body do the work. Also, because we’re not using heat or certain chemicals this treatment can be tolerated by all skin tones.

R: How much does it cost?

H: Prices start at $250 a session. There are also package options that are more cost effective where the price per session drops depending upon how many sessions you purchase in your package.  For further questions, feel free to contact me directly by sending me a direct message on my instagram.

R: Does this procedure hurt?

H: Overall the treatment shouldn’t be super uncomfortable. You’ll receive a topical numbing cream for 20 minutes before we start the procedure. Some clients may experience mild discomfort depending on their pain tolerance.

R: How long does it take to recover?

H: Generally speaking, down time is 3 days. (This includes treatment day) However, depending on the depth we’re treating, it could take up to 5 days to fully heal for the deeper treatments. The day of you’ll look a little scary.  Day two and three usually just consist of redness. If there’s still patchy redness on day four and five it can be covered with makeup.

R: How long will my appointment be?
H: Micro-needling appointments book for one hour. This includes paperwork, consult, numbing etc…

R: Will I see results after one treatment? How often do you recommend I maintain my micro-needling?
H: For optimal results you’ll need more than one treatment with four to six weeks between each session. Everyone’s skin and issues are different, some people may need three or four sessions while others may need more. This would be something discussed in an individualized and personal consultation along with the frequency of sessions for maintenance.
