Happy Sunday everyone! I’m so excited about today’s blog post because we are officially announcing that Grant and I (will the bulldogs help, of course, in their hard hats) will be building our next home! Here’s more of the backstory…
So Grant actually does build homes as part of his job, however it’s not the primary of his job. He does real estate development and develops a handful of neighborhoods including the one we will live in. He typically only builds homes on challenged lots that builders don’t buy, but over the years he has built around 30 homes.
We were given an opportunity on a lot that we absolutely loved that hadn’t been for sale for a very long time until a few months ago when we were approached. It was honestly just such a good opportunity for us financially as well as our businesses because I am actually going to bring y’all along during this home building process. I’ve focused so much of the last 15 months on building PowHer.fit, so I’m sure the loyal blog readers will enjoy seeing more of my design/creativity showcased here again over the next year. When we built our last one (a little over 4 years ago), I wasn’t at a place where I was that comfortable sharing so much of my life online, but honestly my community helps me to continue to feel more comfortable with sharing more content. Everyone always asks home questions, and we will actually be working with a few companies to feature on my blog during this process. Some companies are nailed down, while we still have certain aspects of the home building process where we haven’t finalized exactly who we want to feature just yet.
I’m sure some of you will ask about our home, and yes we will be selling it. We will be listing it later this spring after we begin construction on our new home. We plan to break ground sometime in February (so next month). I absolutely LOVE the home we are in, and of course it will be hard (and emotional for me) to leave. It will ALWAYS hold a very special place in our hearts, as it’s the first house we ever lived together in. It’s where we spent many newlywed memories and grew closer together in our marriage. It’s also where Grant first learned to share his toothpaste LOL. (sore subject haha)

However, I’m really excited to bring y’all along for new home content while we create our next custom build! If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I LOVE to create! Grant and I did really well building our last home as far as budget, compromises and learning to work well together (as we have 2 very different personalities). Grant and I actually LOVE building together. He truly is the most fabulous straight male on the planet because his taste, logistics and finish-outs of his home projects are so nicely done. Last time we built, he surprised me starting the house we live in now the day after he proposed to me, while we were still in Vegas. I actually wasn’t that involved in the home building process until the finish out time came, but this time I plan on being more involved and us tackling this as a team!

I 100% recommend spray foam insulation – it’s a must have! My husband and I bought and remodeled our first home last year and had it sprayed by the company my husband works for and it has been great – especially for keeping our electric bill low!
We have it in our current home and Grant never builds a home without it! You’re right – it’s so great for the electric bill!
Does grant like butler pantries? I am thinking about doing one on our next build….having things out on the counter drives me crazy!
Yes! He did one in a beautiful custom home a few years ago and we will be adding one to this home! I totally agree with what you’re saying!
My daughter & son in law start on their new home this month in the Belton area. They (or she 🙂 designed an area for their dogs with a half gate, doggy door and partially tiled up the wall. She said, “We’ll always have dogs.” I bet you’ve already thought of an area for your precious fur kids! I’m excited for you both & can’t wait to hear & see more!
Omg so sweet!!! What a good dog mama! Our bulldogs either stay out or one in her crib, but we are adding a dog bath in the laundry room for them!
